Every scanner, explained

Each scanner states its rule in plain words, so you always know why a stock is on the list.

Intraday

Opening range breakout

Closed a 5-minute candle outside the first 15-minute range.

Takes the high and low of the first 15 minutes after 9:15. Lists stocks whose last completed 5-minute candle closed above the high or below the low. Works after 9:30.

VWAP cross

Price crossed the day's VWAP in the last 10 minutes.

VWAP is the average price weighted by volume. Lists stocks that moved from one side of VWAP to the other within the last 10 one-minute candles.

Volume spike

Volume well above the usual for this time of day.

Compares today's volume so far with what this stock normally trades by this time of day, using its own last sessions. Shows stocks at 2x or more. Starts after 9:20.

Gap up and gap down

Opened 1% or more away from yesterday's close.

Compares today's open with the previous close. Holding means price is still on the gap side of today's open; fading or recovering means it has moved back.

At day high or low

Trading within 0.15% of the day's high or low.

Lists stocks with a day range above 1% that are sitting at the high or at the low right now.

15-minute momentum

Moved 0.6% or more in the last 15 minutes on healthy volume.

Measures the price change over the last 15 one-minute candles and requires volume at least 1.2x normal for this time of day.

Open interest

Long build-up

Price up and open interest up.

Price is up at least 0.3% and futures open interest is up at least 2% from the previous close. New buyers are entering.

Short build-up

Price down and open interest up.

Price is down at least 0.3% and futures open interest is up at least 2% from the previous close. New sellers are entering.

Short covering

Price up and open interest down.

Price is up at least 0.3% while open interest is down at least 2% from the previous close. Sellers are closing positions.

Long unwinding

Price down and open interest down.

Price is down at least 0.3% while open interest is down at least 2% from the previous close. Buyers are closing positions.

OI spurts

Open interest changed by 5% or more.

Lists the stocks where futures open interest moved the most from the previous close, up or down.

Swing

20-day high breakout

Trading above the highest high of the last 20 days.

Compares price with the highest high of the previous 20 completed daily candles. Higher volume makes a breakout more meaningful.

20-day low breakdown

Trading below the lowest low of the last 20 days.

Compares price with the lowest low of the previous 20 completed daily candles.

EMA 20/50 crossover

The 20-day average crossed the 50-day average in the last 3 days.

Uses exponential moving averages of the daily close, including today's live price as the latest close.

RSI extremes

14-day RSI below 30 or above 70.

RSI measures how strong recent gains are compared with recent losses (Wilder method, on daily closes with today's live price). Below 30 is often called oversold, above 70 overbought.

NR7 squeeze

Yesterday had the narrowest range of the last 7 days.

A tight range can be followed by a bigger move in either direction. This only flags the squeeze and does not predict direction.

High delivery

Delivery share of the last session was 60% or more and well above its 20-day average.

Delivery percentage is the share of traded shares that were actually taken for delivery, from the exchange's end-of-day file for the previous session. Lists stocks at 60% or more and at least 1.3 times their own 20-day average.

Candlestick patterns

Doji, hammer, engulfing, stars and more on the timeframe you pick.

Looks at the last completed candle on your chosen timeframe and names any classic pattern it forms. Patterns describe what happened and do not predict what comes next.
